The Hidden Blade is a World of Warcraft: Forever clue built from five Darnassian words, spread over four lines, on the board behind Senior Game Designer Josh “Aggrend” Greenfield in the sixth official podcast episode, released October 29:
SHEN’SERRAR LEZAL MELOR’NA ADALA FAL
Those words are confirmed. What they point to is not. There is no public item, spell, NPC, quest or coordinate that completes the trail, so this page separates what can be read from what players are only guessing.

What the Darnassian Podcast Phrase Says
Players split the board into familiar roots. The reading is useful, but only some parts are supported well enough to repeat as established translations.
| Word or phrase | Public reading | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Shen’Serrar | Hidden Blade | Strong, from known name roots |
| Lezal | Unknown | No known translation |
| Melor’na | Similar to melor’ne in a known phrase | Low, meaning unproven |
| Adala fal | Matches the end of a known phrase | Medium |
The known Darnassian phrase “Shanna melor’ne adala fal” means “The truth is a guiding light.” The board ends in a similar way, but its Melor’na is not the same word as melor’ne, and Lezal has no known meaning; it could even be a name. Readings such as “the Hidden Blade is a guiding light” are community guesses, not a translation.
Why Shen’Serrar Is Read as Hidden Blade
Shen carries the sense of “hidden” in names such as the Shen’dralar, the long-standing elven order known as Those Who Remain Hidden. Serrar appears in
Quel’Serrar, a Classic Epic sword described in game as The High Blade.
Put those two established pieces together and Shen’Serrar reads naturally as Hidden Blade. That is a linguistic clue: it explains why the lead is named after a weapon even though no weapon item has been found.
It does not explain what the blade is, who can use it, where it comes from or whether it is even equippable. A translated name is not an item record.
Why Onyxia and Quel’Serrar Keep Coming Up
The Classic
Quel’Serrar quest line begins with Foror’s Compendium and includes a battle against Onyxia. Forever puts Onyxia in its first raid tier, so players immediately connected the podcast phrase to that familiar dragon-and-blade story.
That is a strong thematic comparison:
- Quel’Serrar is a known blade;
- its Classic quest involves Onyxia;
- Onyxia’s Lair opens with Forever’s first 40-player raids on December 9;
- Shen’Serrar includes the same “serrar” root.
None of those facts proves that the Hidden Blade drops from Onyxia or starts from a new compendium. The connection is a research lead, not a route.
Onyxia's Lair entrance52.3, 76.1Ashbringer, Xal’atath and the Other Guesses
Community discussion has suggested
Ashbringer, Xal’atath, Thunderfury and several other famous weapons. Those are guesses built from the word “blade”, the raid setting or unrelated datamined material.
There is currently no confirmed item name, model, icon, spell effect or quest text that turns any of those guesses into evidence. Treat confident videos and posts with suspicion unless they show a reproducible item source.
The useful answer today is less dramatic: the phrase likely contains a blade reference, and the rest is unresolved.
Other Secrets That Are Not Part of the Hidden Blade
Three other finds often get lumped in with this clue. Each has moved on, and none is connected to Shen’Serrar:
- Scarlet Banner: a camping cosmetic with a known puzzle. Collect four Echoes from graveyards in different zones, then activate the statues in the Scarlet Monastery Library in order to earn the banner.
- Blueprint: Greenhouse: the Herbalism campsite plan drops from Shadetooth in Excavation Site: Wetlands. Plants in the greenhouse take about eight minutes to grow.
- Spring 2027 legendary questline: game files hint at Moonglade’s Barrow Dens, a crystal tower puzzle in Un’Goro Crater, a Cenarion Circle ritual with six vessels and a branch of Nordrassil, and a solo scenario at Hyjal and Archimonde’s Fall. It is scheduled for spring 2027, and nothing ties it to Shen’Serrar.
How to Verify the Hidden Blade Lead After Launch
Start with observations that can be reproduced:
- Record the exact phrase: five words from the sixth podcast episode, October 29.
- Search live quest text, dialogue and item names for Shen’Serrar, Lezal, Melor’na and Adala Fal separately.
- Check new level 60 raid, dungeon and world content for a blade that uses the Darnassian naming pattern.
- Compare any claimed item against the client’s icon, item type, binding and source.
- Require a screenshot or video that shows the item being looted, crafted, purchased or awarded.
Do not treat a model file, spell icon or encrypted database row as a complete secret. The route begins only when a player can reproduce the first interaction.
Hidden Blade Checklist
- Quote the board accurately. The only confirmed text is SHEN’SERRAR LEZAL MELOR’NA ADALA FAL.
- Keep Lezal unresolved. Do not present a reconstructed translation as official.
- Watch Onyxia’s Lair as a lead. The
Quel’Serrar comparison is relevant but unproven. - Ignore unsourced weapon guesses.
Ashbringer and Xal’atath have no confirmed connection. - Track other secrets separately. The Scarlet Banner, the greenhouse blueprint and the legendary questline are not part of the Hidden Blade.
- Wait for a reproducible first step. A name and a model are data; a quest source is a walkthrough.
Hidden Blade: Shen'Serrar Meaning and Clues Common Questions
What does Shen'Serrar Lezal Melor'na Adala Fal mean?
Shen'Serrar reads as Hidden Blade. The known Darnassian phrase Shanna melor'ne adala fal means The truth is a guiding light, and the board ends in a similar way, but Lezal has no known translation, so the full sentence is not confirmed.
Is the Hidden Blade confirmed to be a new weapon?
No. The words appeared on the board behind Josh "Aggrend" Greenfield in the sixth official podcast episode on October 29, and players connected Shen'Serrar to a blade, but no weapon, quest, boss or reward has been confirmed.
Why are players talking about Onyxia and Quel'Serrar?
Quel'Serrar, the High Blade, is a Classic sword whose quest line includes Onyxia, and Onyxia's Lair opens with Forever's first raids on December 9. That is a thematic connection, not proof of the new item's source.
Is the Hidden Blade connected to the legendary questline?
Nothing links them. The Spring 2027 legendary questline has its own datamined clues, and none of them mentions Shen'Serrar.
Could the phrase refer to Ashbringer?
It is only a community theory. The board does not name Ashbringer, and no datamined item or quest connects the phrase to it.
Where can I start the Hidden Blade quest?
There is no confirmed starting quest or coordinate. Until a live-game interaction is reproduced, this remains a lead to watch rather than a playable walkthrough.
