About The Temple of Atal'Hakkar
Submerged in the fetid waters of the Pool of Tears within the Swamp of Sorrows rests the Sunken Temple of Atal'Hakkar, a monuments to zealotry. Centuries ago, fanatical Atal'ai troll priests sought to tear open the dimensional barrier to summon the Blood God Hakkar the Soulflayer into mortal form. To avert world-ending catastrophe, Ysera the Dreamer hurled her green dragonflight against the temple, shattering the foundation pillars and sinking the colossal stone pyramid into the mire.
Yet the swamp mud could not suffocate the ancient bloodlust. The Atal'ai survived within waterlogged inner vaults, continuing their grim summonings. Worse still, the emerald dragons commanded to guard the ruins—including Eranikus, Consort of Ysera—gradually fell prey to the pervasive whispers of the Emerald Nightmare, their gleaming emerald scales rotting into nightmare-tinged hide as madness claimed their souls.
Navigating the Sunken Temple is a complex three-dimensional puzzle of flooded spiraling corridors, vertical balconies, and sealed stone seals. Adventuring parties must decipher the correct sequence to activate six troll statuettes, purge the six undead high priests, and banish the Avatar of Hakkar from the blood sanctuary before descending into the murk to face the tragic, slumber-inducing fury of the Shade of Eranikus.
First Run
- Located in the center of the Pool of Tears in eastern Swamp of Sorrows; swim through the underwater submerged opening and ascend the spiraling stone stairways to the portal.
- Target level 45 to 50. Highly complex multi-story vertical layout with multiple floors that easily confuse disoriented groups; establish strict party leading.
- Activate the six statue altars around the upper balcony in the correct ancient order to break the magical seal guarding Atal'alarion in the bottom pit.
- Before pulling the Shade of Eranikus in the flooded dragon pit, systematically pull and eliminate all four drakes circling the perimeter balconies (Hazzas, Morphaz, Weaver, Dreamscythe).

The Temple of Atal'Hakkar Route & Boss Strategy
The Sunken Temple is a ring of halls on three levels around one central pit, and it unlocks in order. A circle of statues calls the first boss, six troll priests on the balconies hold the barrier to the prophet, and his death in turn releases the green dragon at the heart of the temple. Know the order before you go in, because the halls all look alike. Allow two hours for everything.
Finding Your Way
- Stairs from the entrance hall lead down to the lowest ring and up to the balconies. Carry the dungeon map open; every corridor here looks like the last.
- Atal'ai Tablets and Fetishes of Hakkar for the two faction quests come from the trolls and from the floor of the halls. Alliance players collect Atal'ai Haze from the worms, lurkers and oozes in the lower level.
Atal'alarion
Boss- Sweeping Slam
- Throws everyone in front of him into the air.
- On the lowest level, six serpent statues ring the pit. Activate them in this order: south, north, southwest, southeast, northwest, northeast. A wrong statue punishes the player who touched it.
- Atal'alarion appears in the middle. Tank him against a wall, facing away from the party.
- When he dies the Idol of Hakkar rises in the pit. Loot it for Secret of the Circle.
The Six Balconies
- On the upper level, six troll priests stand on six balconies over the pit: Gasher, Loro, Hukku, Zolo, Mijan and Zul'Lor. Each is a small boss with two guards.
- Kill all six, in any order, and the green barrier across the prophet's hall falls.
Jammal'an the Prophet
Boss- Hex of Jammal'an
- Turns one player against the party for a few seconds.
- Flamestrike
- Fire on the ground. Move out.
- Healing Wave
- A large heal. Interrupt it.
- He stands with Ogom the Wretched in the hall the barrier closed. Clear the hall first.
- Kill Ogom first, then the prophet. Control the hexed player and do not kill them.
- Take the Head of Jammal'an for the quest that bears his name. His death also wakes the Shade of Eranikus.
Dreamscythe
Boss- Acid Breath
- A cone of acid in front of the dragon.
- Wing Flap
- Knocks back players near it.
- Two green drakes circle the pit on the middle level. Pull this one alone, away from Weaver, and tank it facing away from the party.
Weaver
Boss- Acid Breath
- A cone of acid in front of the dragon.
- Wing Flap
- Knocks back players near it.
- The second of the pair, with the same fight.
Avatar of Hakkar
Optional- Curse of Tongues
- Slows spellcasting.
- Cause Insanity
- Takes control of one player for a few seconds.
- An event for players on The God Hakkar. In the sanctum on the lower level, use the Egg of Hakkar to begin.
- Hakkari Bloodkeepers come with the waves. Kill them for Hakkari Blood and use it to put out the four eternal flames around the room. Nightmare Suppressors walk in to stop the ritual; kill each one before it finishes its channel.
- With the fourth flame out, the Avatar appears. Control the player he takes over, kill him, and fill the egg from his body.
Morphaz
Boss- Acid Breath
- A cone of acid in front of the dragon.
- He and Hazzas guard the way to Eranikus and come together. Control one if you can; otherwise the tank holds both, facing away from the party.
Hazzas
Boss- Acid Breath
- A cone of acid in front of the dragon.
- Killed with Morphaz, after him.
Shade of Eranikus
Boss- Deep Slumber
- Puts one player to sleep.
- War Stomp
- Stuns everyone near him.
- Acid Breath
- A cone of acid in front of him.
- He cannot be attacked until Jammal'an is dead. Clear every dragonkin in his chamber first, because the fight moves around.
- Tank him facing away from the party. Ranged players and the healer stand out of War Stomp range.
- He drops the Essence of Eranikus; the font for its quest is in the same lair.
