The Ruins of Lordaeron hide two bosses that never appear in a normal boss order. The Abandoned waits behind a knight statue that lights up when you approach, and Viktor the Vile emerges from the fireplace of a ruined house after five waves of undead, arriving himself with the sixth.
The dungeon is tuned for levels 15–20 and has seven bosses in all: five in the normal route, these two summons, and Lordaeron Captain as a rare spawn. Both summons punish a group that triggers the event before clearing the surrounding hall or house.

How to Summon The Abandoned: The Knight Statue
Follow the U-shaped route to the left side of the map and into the small hall with a knight’s statue. Clear the hall and anything near its doorways, then rest and drink to full. You do not click the statue: walking up to it starts the event, and the statue flares with light.
Three waves of undead attack with no break between them. Keep the group inside the hall so fleeing mobs do not pull adjacent rooms. After the third wave, The Abandoned, a level 18 ghost, leaps out and becomes attackable.
The boss drops three Rare items:
Scepter of the Abandoned (271216),
Rotmender’s Leggings (271207) and
Grip of Fear (271208). The leggings belong to Rotmender’s Raiment, a five-piece cloth healer set;
Rotmender’s Treads drop from Rath’mael in the same dungeon.

Ruins of Lordaeron entrance72.5, 11.4How to Summon Viktor the Vile: The Ruined House Fireplace
Viktor waits in the ruined house with a chimney in the bottom-left corner of the map, south-west of Lordamere Overlook. Clear around the house, drink to full, then click the fire under the chimney: it shows as Warm Kindling (some guides call it the Grim Campfire). Five waves of undead follow with almost no pause, and Viktor the Vile, a level 19 elite ghoul, arrives with the sixth wave.
Set the group at the house entrance, assign an interrupt for any caster in the waves, and keep the healer clear of the doorway pillar so line of sight does not break during the pull. Viktor’s loot table includes
Vilewalkers (271211),
Bloodied Chestwraps (271212) and
Vileblood Scimitar (271218).
Viktor the Vile Not Spawning?
Viktor only appears once every add from the first five waves is dead. If the waves stop and he does not come, sweep the house and the doorway for a stray ghoul that wandered off. If he still does not show, the group can leave and reset the instance to try again.
Boss Abilities and Strategy
| Boss | Ability | How to handle it |
|---|---|---|
| The Abandoned | Chilled | Slows melee players who hit him; expect slower swings. |
| The Abandoned | Frost Nova | Freezes everyone close to him. Ranged players keep their distance. |
| The Abandoned | Life Drain | Drains the tank’s health. Stun or interrupt at the start of the cast. |
| Viktor the Vile | Leech Poison | Drains the tank over time. Cure it if you can, and keep heals on the tank. |
| Viktor the Vile | Wave pressure | Six waves with almost no pause. The tank grabs each wave quickly and the healer saves mana from the first one. |
Loot Worth Farming
Scepter of the Abandoned: main-hand mace with +24 spell power and +5 shadow resistance, wearable at level 17. A big upgrade for any low-level caster or healer.
Rotmender’s Leggings: cloth legs with +5 stamina and 4 mana every 5 seconds, wearable at 17, and a piece of Rotmender’s Raiment, whose bonuses add shadow resistance, intellect, an emergency mana return and a chance for extra healing.
Grip of Fear: mail gloves with +6 strength and +6 intellect, a natural fit for Paladins and Shamans.
What to Clear Before Summoning
Both encounters share the same failure mode: the room behind the summoning point is still full of mobs. Clear a wide circle around the statue or the house, including the side rooms the waves can path through. A group that starts the event with a patrolling pack nearby often loses the healer before the boss appears.
Do not leave a player at the dungeon entrance during the waves. The event needs the group present to keep the adds under control, and a late arrival can enter through a pack that has already reset.
The Abandoned vs Viktor the Vile
The statue fight is the shorter event and the better first stop. Three waves make it easier to recover from a mistake, and the boss arrives in a hall with more room. Viktor’s sixth-wave entrance is longer and more punishing for a low-level group, so save him for after the group has learned the dungeon’s add pattern.
Neither boss replaces a normal clear. Treat them as optional objectives that turn the Ruins of Lordaeron into a more complete loot run.
Ruins of Lordaeron Boss Checklist
- Clear the knight statue’s hall first. The event starts when you walk up to the statue; no click needed.
- Stay in the hall for all three waves. Do not chase one add down a corridor and leave the group exposed.
- Loot The Abandoned for the caster pieces.
Scepter of the Abandoned and
Rotmender’s Leggings are the headline drops. - Move to the ruined house in the bottom-left corner. Click the Warm Kindling under the chimney.
- Prepare for six waves. Viktor arrives with the sixth once every earlier add is dead; keep the group together and the healer in range.
- Use the dungeon page for the rest of the route and normal boss order.
