About Maraudon
Carved deep into the jagged badlands of Desolace lies Maraudon, the tragic ancestral tomb of the centaur. Long ago, the demigod Zaetar, first son of Cenarius, fell into a cursed romance with Princess Theradras, the chaotic chaotic elemental daughter of Therazane the Stonemother. Their twisted union birthed the barbaric centaur race, who immediately slew their own father in parricidal fury. Overcome with possessive grief, Theradras entombed Zaetar’s weeping spirit in her subterranean bedchamber, binding his essence to her fungal paradise.
The architecture shifts between natural splendor and primordial decay. Two distinct routes pierce the cavern: the Orange route, an amber-lit grotto choked with noxious slimes and virulent lashers; and the Purple route, a twilight corridor haunted by corrupted satyrs and ancestral centaur apparitions. Both paths converge before Celebras the Cursed, where the stone ceiling falls away into a breathless natural marvel: a roaring subterranean waterfall cascading hundreds of feet down into the verdant depths of the inner sanctum.
Leaping through the thundering mist into the grotto pools below, strike teams confront primordial hydras, giant crocolisks, and animated basalt giants. At the bottom of the world stands the towering, grotesque mass of Princess Theradras, hurling boulders and churning seismic dust storms to defend her lover’s restless ghost.
First Run
- Located in the Valley of Spears in western Desolace; traverse non-instanced outer tunnels to select either the Orange (Noxxion) or Purple (Vyletongue) portal.
- Ranges from level 42 to 48. Outer crystal wings are clearable in the low forties, but the lower falls and Theradras require level 46+ to withstand crushing melee blows; use the Scepter of Celebras to portal directly to the inner falls.
- Leaping off the great waterfall into the pool below is a one-way trip; ensure all party members jump simultaneously and check the water for patrolling crocolisks.
- Princess Theradras casts a lethal localized Dust Field knockback and unleashes chaotic fear pulses; keep melee dancing in and out while ranged kite her around the perimeter.
