About The Hall of Thanes
Ironforge guards take great pride in declaring the mountain fortress impregnable, but they seldom mention the ancestral gates bolted shut beneath the Great Forge. The Hall of Thanes once served as the proud council seat where High King Modimus Anvilmar presided over dwarven lords. Following the War of the Three Hammers, however, these neglected subterranean vaults quietly slipped into the hands of Dark Iron infiltrators and black-market arms smugglers.
When the scent of burning sulfur and volatile black powder began venting into the Explorers' League library, King Magni Bronzebeard had seen enough. Adventuring parties descending into the halls traverse ruined stonework and abandoned blast furnaces, contending with fanatic saboteurs, mutinous cutthroats, and blazing elementals coaxed from geothermal cracks. The air smells not of aged dwarven ale, but of exposed powder keg fuses waiting for a spark.
Guarding the vaulted dais at the heart of the complex are Faldrim Anvilmar, a disgraced descendant who renounced his mountain vows, alongside the iron-fisted Durgen Dirgehammer. For novice Alliance adventurers, this serves as an unforgiving subterranean baptism of fire—proving that danger lurks not merely beyond the gates of Dun Morogh, but directly beneath their floorboards.
First Run
- The entrance is tucked inside lower service tunnels beneath Ironforge, directly accessible without leaving the city gates.
- Come around level 13 to 15. As the Alliance counterpart to Ragefire Chasm, trash densities are forgiving and routes are compact, making it an ideal proving ground for green tanks and healers.
- Watch patrol paths closely inside the colonnaded halls. Never dodge backward into unpulled rooms; allow the tank to plant mobs firmly in the chamber center.
- Infurnus dishes out searing fire damage while Durgen cleaves heavily; keep fragile casters positioned well behind the bosses.
Veteran Notes
- Four sequenced bosses confirmed in client DB2: Faldrim Anvilmar, Plunder, Infurnus, and Durgen Dirgehammer.
- Four dedicated dungeon quests are live in the client, picking up from Ironforge and Dun Morogh quest hubs.
- Single-floor circular flow with zero maze elements; an organized five-player group can clear from gate to throne in fifteen minutes.
Changes in Forever
- Alliance Early-Level Parity. Classic forced Alliance players to wait until level 18 for Deadmines, leaving a frustrating five-player void. The Hall of Thanes grants Alliance an immediate level 13 starter dungeon comparable to Ragefire Chasm.
- Milestone Achievement Mirror. Counts directly toward the Novice Spelunker milestone achievement in place of Ragefire Chasm.
