The City of Dalaran lists eight bosses, and one of them never shows up on his own. Lyn the Ignored stays hidden in the sewers until someone in the party opens the right book on the right rune, and that book is not found anywhere inside Dalaran. The hunt starts one dungeon earlier, on a table in Shadowfang Keep.
The whole chain is three stops and a short walk: loot a tome, transform it, and use it. Do it once and the tome stays in your bags for every run after that. Below is each stop in order, the fight itself, and why the detour pays for itself on your very first Dalaran run.
The Three-Step Route: Shadowfang Keep → Ambermill → City of Dalaran
| Stop | Where | What you do | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shadowfang Keep, Archmage Arugal’s room | Kill Arugal, then loot the book on his table | |
| 2 | Ambermill Town Hall, Silverpine Forest (63.4, 64.3) | Use the Black Tome beside the Ambermill Leyline Focus | |
| 3 | City of Dalaran sewers, after the first boss | Use the Tome of Dalaran at the purple rune | Lyn the Ignored appears |
In Classic, Shadowfang Keep and Ambermill were two unrelated errands in the same forest. Forever ties them together: Arugal was a Kirin Tor archmage before he was the master of the keep, and the book he left behind is your way into a corner of Dalaran that the main route walks straight past.
Stop One: The Black Tome on Arugal’s Table
Run Shadowfang Keep all the way to the top and defeat Archmage Arugal. Before the party hearths out, climb the stairs at the back of his room and look for the table covered in alchemy supplies: the book lying on it can now be looted, and it puts a
Black Tome in your bags.
The tome’s own tooltip tells you the next step: use it at the Ambermill Leyline Focus to create the
Tome of Dalaran. Since the keep is a level 18 dungeon and Dalaran is built for levels 28 to 33, this is a quick clear for a party that is ready for Dalaran, and a natural pickup for anyone leveling through Silverpine on the way up.

Shadowfang Keep entrance44.7, 67.8Stop Two: The Leyline Focus at Ambermill
Leave the keep and head east across Silverpine Forest to Ambermill, the Dalaran-held town on the road toward Lordamere Lake. It is a few minutes on foot from the dungeon entrance.
Inside Ambermill Town Hall, beside Archmage Ataeric at 63.4, 64.3, a blue crystal floats above a table: the Ambermill Leyline Focus. Stand next to it and use the
Black Tome. The same hall is one of the spots for the Dalaran Digest library book. The book transforms into the
Tome of Dalaran, an uncommon-quality item that binds to you. That is the key to the secret boss, and it is the only one your party needs.
Stop Three: The Purple Rune in the Dalaran Sewers
With the tome in your bags, enter the City of Dalaran through the sewers. The tome does not open the gate: someone in the party still needs the
Dalaran Sewer Key, and the dungeon page covers how each faction earns it.
- Defeat Atrexis the Grave Knight, the first boss, as usual.
- Keep straight where the route turns right. The main path bends right toward the stairs up to the city. Ignore the turn and follow the tunnel ahead to a small side room with wooden planks over the water and a purple rune on the floor. Atrexis’s area has a circle of its own; that one does nothing.
- Clear the room first. A few enemies guard the rune, and you do not want them joining the fight.
- Use the
Tome of Dalaran on the rune. Lyn the Ignored appears, delivers a short speech, and then attacks.

The Fight: Curse, Volleys, and Skeletons
Lyn is a level 31 rare elite and hits harder than his hidden status suggests, especially when Shadow Bolt Volley lands on a cursed party. He has three abilities, and one of them decides how smooth it goes.
- Curse of Thorns: lasts three minutes and gives every attack a 50% chance to deal 19–41 damage back to you. Mages and Druids remove it from the tank and fast-hitting melee first, Rogues above all. With no decurse in the group, healers plan for the extra damage and a cursed player holds attacks only when their health runs low.
- Shadow Bolt Volley: Shadow damage to the whole party at regular intervals. Healers should expect steady group healing here, and a healing potion is a fair use of a cooldown.
- Raise Dead: summons two non-elite skeletons. Pick them up and kill them as they come.
A mage or druid who can remove curses makes this boss noticeably easier, which is worth remembering when you fill the last party slot.
The Reward: Three Rare Drops and a Reusable Key
Lyn the Ignored drops rare-quality level 28 gear (item level 33) from a dedicated table:
| Item | Slot | Type | Stats & Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
273054) |
Hands | Leather | 68 Armor, +9 Agility, +8 Spirit, Equip: +4 Skinning Skill |
273055) |
Off Hand | Shield | 718 Armor, 16 Block, +5 Strength, +5 Stamina, Equip: +8 Block Value |
273053) |
Main Hand | Dagger | 16–30 Damage (1.60 speed, 14.4 DPS), +5 Stamina, Equip: +36 Spell Power and +8 Health Regeneration |
The dagger is the headline drop: +36 spell power is a large jump for any caster or healer at level 28.
The better news is the tome itself. Using the
Tome of Dalaran does not consume it. It simply goes on a three-minute cooldown, so a wipe costs you a short wait instead of another trip to Shadowfang Keep, and the same tome summons Lyn on every future run. Because he stands one boss and a handful of pulls from the entrance, a party hunting the shield or the dagger can add him to every Dalaran run for a few extra minutes.
Your Next Steps
- Loot the
Black Tome on your next Shadowfang Keep run. It costs a few seconds after Arugal dies. See the Shadowfang Keep page for the route. - Convert it at Ambermill right away. The Leyline Focus is in the town hall at 63.4, 64.3, a short walk from the keep, so finish both stops in one trip.
- Bring a curse remover to Dalaran. Curse of Thorns is the one mechanic that punishes an unprepared group.
- Plan the full run. The City of Dalaran page has the map, the other seven bosses, the loot, and every quest for both factions.
Lyn the Ignored: Dalaran Secret Boss Location and Loot Common Questions
Where is Lyn the Ignored in WoW Forever?
Lyn the Ignored is a level 31 rare elite hidden in the sewers of the City of Dalaran dungeon. He never spawns on his own; one party member has to summon him with the Tome of Dalaran.
How do I summon Lyn the Ignored?
Loot the Black Tome from Shadowfang Keep, use it at the Ambermill Leyline Focus in Silverpine Forest (63.4, 64.3), then use the Tome of Dalaran on the purple rune in the City of Dalaran sewers.
Does using the Tome of Dalaran consume it?
No. The tome stays in your bags and has a three-minute cooldown.
Where is the summoning rune in the City of Dalaran?
Past Atrexis the Grave Knight, continue straight where the main route turns right toward the city stairs. The rune is in a small side room with wooden planks over the water. Atrexis's own area has a circle too, but it is not the one.
How do I handle Curse of Thorns?
Bring a Mage or Druid and remove it from the tank and fast-hitting melee, Rogues first. The curse lasts three minutes, so without a decurse, healers cover the extra damage and cursed players hold attacks only when their health runs low.
What loot does Lyn the Ignored drop?
Three rare level 28 items: Cartilage Shapers (leather gloves), Bonepile Gaze (shield) and Tendonscraper Dagger (caster dagger with +36 spell power).
