About The Deadmines
When the First War left Stormwind a smoking cinder, the skilled hands of the Stonemasons' Guild, led by master architect Edwin VanCleef, painstakingly rebuilt the capital stone by stone. Yet on the day the monumental work stood complete, Stormwind's corrupt House of Nobles—whispered to by Lady Katrana Prestor—unjustly refused payment. Legitimate petition erupted into street riots, the rebellion was brutally crushed by palace guards, and the betrayed masons were branded outlaws and banished from the city they had raised with their bare hands.
They did not scatter in despair. Banding together under the scarlet banner of the Defias Brotherhood, the displaced artisans pushed into Westfall, seized the abandoned gold mines beneath Moonbrook, and displaced miners and farmers alike. While destitute refugees crowded the watchtower at Sentinel Hill, the Brotherhood carried out an engineering marvel in secret: tunneling miles beneath the earth out to the hidden coastal cavern of Ironclad Cove, where goblin shipwrights work day and night constructing a massive dreadnought armed with naval ordnance.
The vessel's armored hull is finished, and its empty gun ports will not remain idle for long. Gryan Stoutmantle’s desperate People's Militia barely holds the high road to Elwynn Forest; they need daring volunteers to push past the goblin foundries and confront VanCleef upon his own quarterdeck. The masons were driven from Stormwind in chains, but the explosive reckoning waiting in Ironclad Cove will shake the kingdom to its foundations.
First Run
- Head southwest from Sentinel Hill across Westfall to Moonbrook; the shaft entrance lies inside the dilapidated masonry ruins on the western edge of town.
- Aim for level 18 to 20. The portal opens at 16, but major quest chains (notably the climax of The Defias Brotherhood) require 18 to acquire, and mobs hit substantially harder near the ship.
- The winding mine tunnels between Moonbrook and the instance portal are non-instanced and packed with fast-respawning cutthroats; clear methodically to avoid being mobbed from behind.
- Mr. Smite is the premier wiper of rookie groups. Hold major defensive cooldowns and burst damage until his second weapon swap, when he stuns the party and brandishes twin two-handed hammers.
Veteran Notes
- Seven classic boss encounters: Rhahk'Zor, Sneed and his shredder, Gilnid, Captain Greenskin, Mr. Smite, Cookie the Defias cook, and Edwin VanCleef.
- Thirteen attached quests forming the defining Alliance low-level narrative arc, ending with Edwin VanCleef's head presented at Sentinel Hill.
- Two distinct interior floors: the labyrinthine mine workings and the jaw-dropping vista of Ironclad Cove.
Changes in Forever
- New Quest: Destruction in Deadmines. Forever adds a level 18 sabotage contract requiring heavy explosives planted in the Goblin Foundry, breathing fresh tactical life into the forge sector.
- Milestone Clear Rewards. Fully clearing the Deadmines ship deck delivers unmatched experience payoff under Forever's revised dungeon progression.
