Not every hidden quest starts with a note. Silver of the Waves begins inside a toolbox on the bottom of Loch Modan, 
Whispering Horror Residue drops from an elite in a Tirisfal cellar, and the 
Malignant Root is a secret trade for the innards of an elite that only wanders the Wetlands at night.
Two are hidden quests and one is a secret reward. All three are short, but each has a trigger that the quest log never explains. The routes below use the coordinates players see in the game map.

Silver of the Waves: The Loch Modan Hair Clip
The quest is listed at level 20 with a minimum character level of 13. Dive for the Discarded Fishing Toolbox and loot the 
Monogrammed Silver Hair Clip. The toolbox moves between several spots on the lakebed, often beside sunken wreckage: check 45.7, 43.2, 48.1, 39.7, 49.4, 53.9 and 50.6, 53.3. Its yellow exclamation mark is underwater, so you can sometimes spot it from the surface. The initials “K.D.” are the only clue.
Carry the clip to Khara Deepwater, the fishing supplies vendor on the shore at 40.3, 39.3. Turning it in rewards the 
Repurposed Hair Band, 1,550 experience, 12 silver, 100 Ironforge reputation and the satisfaction of returning a very old piece of lost property. The quest ID is 86614.

The lake is deeper than it looks. Dive straight down at each spot rather than searching from the surface, and watch the Young Threshadons if you are still close to the quest’s minimum level.
Whispering Horror Residue: The Shadowvale Cellar
This is a Horde quest that opens at level 7 and begins below the ruined house in Shadowvale, Tirisfal Glades. Find the cellar entrance, go inside and kill the Whispering Horror, a level 11–13 elite that casts Lightning Bolt and Shock, around 9.4, 59.9. Loot the Whispering Horror Residue to start the quest.
Take the residue to Father Lankester in the War Quarter of Undercity at 49.1, 14.6. The turn-in gives 910 experience, 6 silver and 100 Undercity reputation. Quest ID 95328.

2 · Father Lankester49.1, 14.6The residue drops on every kill. If you cannot loot it, check that your character is at least level 7 and that you do not already carry one. The nature damage hurts at low level: Paladins and Warlocks have soloed it around level 11 to 13, but most classes are safer bringing a friend. The cellar also holds several small side quests, so clear the room before leaving.
Malignant Root: Hunt the Nightveiled Rotheap in Wetlands
The Nightveiled Rotheap is a level 31–32 elite bog beast that lives up to its name: it appears at night, server time, usually from around 9 p.m., and patrols the Wetlands rather than waiting at one spawn point. Its route runs from the western coast along the main river toward the dam. Start at 36.6, 36.7 and 17.4, 51.0; it has also been seen at 19.6, 43.4, 20.2, 27.4, 26.8, 41.8, 29.8, 23.2 and 42.0, 28.7. A /target Nightveiled Rotheap macro saves a lot of searching.
Kill it and loot Rotheap Innards (279537)—every member of your party or raid can loot their own innards from a single kill—then turn them in to Rethiel the Greenwarden at 56.4, 40.4. The reward is Malignant Root (282283), an item level 32 Rare ring with +7 Stamina, +8 Attack Power and +4 Spell Power and no level requirement. The ring binds on pickup, but the innards do not: they are Unique, so each character can hold only one, and they can be mailed. A high-level character can kill the rotheap and post the innards to an Alliance alt, who then trades them in. The turn-in is Alliance-only because Rethiel is hostile to the Horde.

Form a party, or slow and kite it with ranged damage after clearing nearby mobs so its patrol path does not drag in a second pack.
Which Hidden Quest Should You Do First?
Alliance players passing Loch Modan should pick up the hair clip because the turn-in is on the same shore. Malignant Root is worth a dedicated night trip: every party or raid member can loot Rotheap Innards, the innards can be mailed, and the item level 32 Rare ring has no level requirement, so even a fresh Alliance alt can wear it the moment it reaches Rethiel. Horde players can clear the Shadowvale cellar while leveling through Tirisfal; it is the fastest of the three.

Hidden Quest Checklist
- Dive for the toolbox. Open the Loch Modan map and check the lakebed spots at 45.7, 43.2, 48.1, 39.7, 49.4, 53.9 and 50.6, 53.3.
- Return the clip on the same lake. Khara is at 40.3, 39.3.
- Clear the Shadowvale cellar. Kill the Whispering Horror, then visit Undercity.
- Hunt the rotheap at night. Start at 36.6, 36.7, then check 17.4, 51.0.
- Loot the innards before the corpse despawns. Then take them, or mail them to an Alliance alt, to Rethiel for the Malignant Root.

Where is the Silver Hair Clip in Loch Modan?
The Discarded Fishing Toolbox sits on the bottom of Loch Modan at one of several spots: 45.7, 43.2, 48.1, 39.7, 49.4, 53.9 or 50.6, 53.3. Take the Monogrammed Silver Hair Clip and deliver it to Khara Deepwater at 40.3, 39.3.

Can you mail Rotheap Innards to an alt?
Yes. The innards are Unique, so each character can hold only one, but they do not bind. A high-level character can kill the rotheap and mail the innards to an Alliance alt, who trades them to Rethiel.
