The Short Answer
WoW Forever is not a new Classic server. It is a permanent version of the original 1 to 60 game that keeps the pacing, the level cap, and the ground travel, then adds new land, new pairings, and new systems on top of them.
So the question is not which game is better. It is whether you want the original journey repeated exactly, or the same rules applied to ground you have never walked. Classic gives you the first. Forever gives you the second, and it launches on November 4, 2026.
Five Differences That Decide It
Most changes are refinements you stop noticing after a week. These five change what you do with your play time.
| Feature | Classic | Forever |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy System | No account-wide progression. | Legacy Points shared across alts, spent per character in Legacy Trees. |
| Camping | A cooking fire used for Cooking only. | The Cooking Fire becomes a Basic Campfire where players add profession objects for one-hour buffs. |
| New Race and Class Combinations | Fixed race and class pairings. | Gnome Priest, Human Hunter, Dwarf Shaman, Orc Mage, Troll Warlock, Undead Paladin. |
| Quests | The original quest set. | More than 1,000 new quests across levels 1–60. |
| Realms and Rulesets | A traditional realm list. | Realmless play: choose Normal, PvP, Roleplaying, or Hardcore rulesets. |
- Legacy System. Each character can spend up to 16 points at launch. Players can initially earn up to 65 Legacy Points, and extra points feed a reward track.
- Camping. Placing a Basic Campfire creates a campsite with access to vendors, repairs, profession workspaces, and one-hour buffs. Up to three nearby players can each add one crafted object, such as a Blacksmith Sharpening Wheel for Attack Power or a Herbalist Incense Candle for Intellect. First objects unlock at profession skill 20, advanced ones come from Blueprint recipes dropped by dungeon bosses, and Cooks can build upgraded campfires that hold 5 or 10 objects.
- New Race and Class Combinations. Six new pairings arrive at launch, one for six different classes. See the full race and class matrix to plan your character.
- Quests. New quests fill the full leveling journey, including entire new zones such as Riverglades and Zephras Isle.
- Realms and Rulesets. You pick a ruleset instead of a realm. Hardcore arrives after launch, and grouping across different rulesets is not supported, so agree on one with your friends.
What Forever Keeps
The parts of Classic people worry about losing are the parts Blizzard left alone.
| Unchanged | What it means |
|---|---|
| Level Cap | The journey still runs from 1 to 60, and Blizzard wants leveling to matter as much as endgame. |
| Flying Mounts | You travel the world on the ground, just like Classic. |
| Level Scaling | Zones keep fixed level ranges, so outleveling content feels like real progress. |
Rested experience, the 60 cap, fixed zone levels, and ground travel all survive intact, which is why a Classic player can log into Forever and know exactly how to play it.
Every Change by System
This page covers the decision. The change database covers the detail, one system at a time.
Who Should Play Which
Play Forever
- You know the 1 to 60 journey and want new ground inside it: four new zones, nine new dungeons, and over a thousand new quests.
- You want the race and class you could never pair in Classic, such as an Undead Paladin or a Dwarf Shaman.
- You like progression that keeps paying off across characters, which is what the account-wide Legacy trees do.
- You want a fresh economy and a fresh race to 60 with everyone starting together.
Stay on Classic
- You want the original content exactly as it was, with no new systems layered on top.
- Your guild, characters, and progression already live there and you do not want to restart.
- You prefer a known raid ladder over a game that adds new tiers on its own schedule.
Still undecided? Pick the class you want to play first. The class guides show what each one gained, and the character roll will pick one for you.
Common Questions
Is WoW Forever a replacement for Classic?
No. It is a permanent version built on the original 1 to 60 game and it runs alongside Classic. Your Classic characters are untouched, and Forever starts everyone from level 1.
What is the biggest difference between Forever and Classic?
The rules are close to identical; the content is not. Forever adds four new zones, nine new dungeons, over a thousand new quests, the Skyborne race, six new race and class pairings, the account-wide Legacy system, and wilderness camping.
Is the level cap still 60?
Yes. The cap stays at 60, there are no flying mounts, and there is no level scaling. Forever grows through new content rather than a higher cap.
Can I transfer my Classic character?
No. Forever is a fresh start, and everyone begins at level 1 on November 4, 2026.
Which one should I pick?
Stay on Classic if you want the original content exactly as it was. Pick Forever if you want new ground, new pairings, and new systems inside the same ruleset.
