Combat, utility and console commands, ready to copy

One button that attacks, heals the player under your mouse, or sheeps a second target saves a keybind and a split second every pull. Every command below is in the Forever client, and every block copies with one click.

How to Make a Macro in WoW Forever

  1. 1

    Open the Macros window

Press Escape and choose Macros, or type /macro in chat.

  2. 2

    Pick a tab

General Macros are shared by every character on the account; the character tab keeps a macro on this character only.

  3. 3

    Create, paste, drag

Press New, pick the question-mark icon so #showtooltip can show the spell, paste the lines, then drag the icon to your action bar.

Spell and item names must match your client language. The examples on this page use the English client's names; on a Chinese client, switch to the Chinese version of this page. Slash commands are the same in both.

Console Commands Worth a Macro

The Forever engine keeps settings that never made it onto the options screen, and one /console line reaches them. Each change applies at once and stays saved. Before you change anything, note the old value with /dump GetCVar("name").

Volumetric fog off

Removes the drifting haze Forever adds to many zones and dungeons. It hides distant pulls and costs frames on older cards; the options screen only offers a quality slider under Compute Effects. 1 brings it back.

Command/console volumeFog value

ValueWhat you getCopy
0Fog off
1Fog on (default)

Undo: Run /console volumeFog 1, or raise Compute Effects again.

Shadows to minimum

The setting behind the Shadow Quality slider, at its lowest step: blob shadows instead of full environment shadows. The first line to try when cities or 40-player raids dip. Our Beta client read 3 before the change.

Command/console graphicsShadowQuality value

ValueWhat you getCopy
0Lowest: simple blob shadows
3What our Beta client read before the change

Undo: Move the Shadow Quality slider back, or run the command with the value you noted.

Shorter view distance

farclip is how far away the game still draws the world. Past that distance, terrain, trees and buildings are simply not rendered, so the engine has far less to draw each frame. A smaller number means a shorter horizon and more frames. Use 777 when a crowded city or a world boss turns into a slideshow, and 300 only for the worst moments.

Command/console farclip value

ValueWhat you getCopy
10000What our Beta client stored with View Distance near the top
777Nearby area and towns stay; far mountains and the skyline disappear
300Only your surroundings; buildings pop in as you ride

Undo: Drag the View Distance slider again; it writes its own value back.

Flat water

Behind the Liquid Detail slider. At 0 water keeps its animated texture but loses reflections, which matters most in coastal zones.

Command/console waterDetail value

ValueWhat you getCopy
0Animated water, no reflections

Undo: Raise the Liquid Detail slider again.

Nameplates from farther away

Sets how far away nameplates appear, in yards. No slider exists for it. Check that it took with /dump GetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance"); if the number did not change, the client is holding its own limit.

Command/console nameplateMaxDistance value

ValueWhat you getCopy
40Nameplates appear for units up to 40 yards away

Undo: Run the command again with the value /dump GetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance") showed before.

Keep color after death

Stops the screen turning gray while you are a ghost, so landmarks and your corpse marker are easier to pick out on the run back. 1 restores the gray.

Command/console ffxDeath value

ValueWhat you getCopy
0World stays in color while you are a ghost
1Classic gray death screen (default)

Undo: Run /console ffxDeath 1.

Quest sparkles without outlines

If you turn Outline Mode off, quest objects blend into the scenery. This brings back the classic loot sparkle on them. Not needed if you keep outlines on.

Command/console outlineModeShowLootEffectWhenDisabled value

ValueWhat you getCopy
1Quest objects sparkle when Outline Mode is off
0No sparkle with outlines off

Undo: Run the command with 0.

One Performance Macro for Raids and City Events

Fog, shadows, water and view distance give the largest frame-rate gain for the least visual loss. Put the four lines in one macro and press it before a raid or a crowded event. Compare your machine with the system requirements to see how much headroom you have.

Macro
/console volumeFog 0
/console graphicsShadowQuality 0
/console waterDetail 0
/console farclip 777

Raids and battlegrounds keep their own values (RAIDfarclip, RAIDwaterDetail, RAIDvolumeFog, raidGraphicsShadowQuality). If you use the separate raid profile and a tweak vanishes inside a raid, set the raid version too.

WoW Forever Macro Common Questions

How do I make a macro in WoW Forever?

Press Escape and choose Macros, or type /macro. General macros are shared by every character on the account; character-specific macros belong to the one you are playing. Create one, pick an icon, paste the lines, then drag it to your action bar.

Do macros use the same spell names in every language?

No. Spell and item names in a macro must match your client language, so a Chinese client needs /cast with the Chinese spell name. The slash commands themselves, such as /startattack, /focus and /castsequence, are the same in every client.

What does #showtooltip do?

It makes the macro icon and tooltip show the first spell the macro will cast, including its cooldown and range. Without it the macro keeps the fixed icon you picked.

Does WoW Forever support mouseover and focus macros?

Yes. The Forever client has the /focus and /clearfocus commands, and the @mouseover and @focus macro conditions work, which is how the heal and crowd-control macros on this page are written.

How long can a macro be?

Each macro holds up to 255 characters. If yours does not fit, split it into two macros or drop conditions you do not need.

Do console commands stay saved?

Yes. A /console change applies at once and is saved. Write down the old value first with /dump GetCVar("name") so you can always put it back.
