How to Unlock Legacy

Legacy opens the moment you earn your first Legacy Point. For most players that is when a first character reaches level 25, but you can also get there by reaching 150 in a crafting profession or by exploring the entire world map. Open it from the shield icon on the menu bar or press Y.

No alts required: one character can earn up to 29 points on its own (3 from leveling, 6 from its two crafting professions, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure, and 6 from dungeons and raids), well past the 16-point cap. Alts simply get you there faster, and every one of them can spend its 16 points differently.

Plan Your 16 Points

Spend up to 16 points across the three trees. Perks open at 0, 5, or 10 points in their tree, and linked perks need a point in the perk before them. Your plan lives in the page link, so copy it to save or share.

  Adventure 7 perks

  Leveling and travel: faster rested experience, talent points from as early as level 5, stealth detection, cheaper and faster flights, shorter bandage lockouts, and quicker camp setup.

  Resourcefulness 7 perks

  Everyday savings: faster corpse runs and free spells after a resurrection, less durability loss, more reputation and honor, longer food and group buffs, and class spells without vendor reagents.

  Professions 7 perks

  Crafting and gathering: more skill-ups, extra Scarce materials, cheaper vendor prices, bonus Merchant's Favor, extra fish and cooking results, and a boost to your lowest tradeskill.

Legacy Collection Rewards

Legacy Points do more than fill the trees: total points earned also unlock a set of collection rewards. All four items are in the game client.

Point thresholds are taken from the final beta client.

Legacy and Hardcore

Legacy Points are shared by all of your non-Hardcore characters. Hardcore is not part of launch, and when it arrives it follows its own rules: challenges completed on other rulesets do not carry into Hardcore, while a challenge completed in Hardcore counts on every ruleset. PvP challenges cannot be done in Hardcore, so it will add 12 challenges of its own.

What's Next for Legacy

Blizzard built Legacy to grow. Planned additions include new challenges and perks, more ways to spend points, higher spend caps, new columns in the existing trees, and potentially entirely new trees. Two empty perk slots already sit in each tree, so a plan you make today is a starting point rather than a final answer.
