About Stonetalon Mountains
The Stonetalon Mountains are a place of cliffs and long climbs. After the Third War, Thrall’s Horde crossed these heights looking for a home, and the fugitives of Jaina Proudmoore’s humans came the same way. The foothills held the first tense meeting of the two peoples, and when Grommash Hellscream’s Warsongs attacked, it very nearly became a massacre.
The Sentinels and the druids have watched the mountains ever since, and goblin loggers of the Venture Company now strip the forests of the lowlands. Sun Rock Retreat and Stonetalon Peak cling to the cliffs, and every traveler on the road to Desolace passes through them.
The Venture Company strips the Charred Vale and Windshear Crag below, while Sun Rock Retreat and Stonetalon Peak cling to the high cliffs. The mountains connect the Barrens, Ashenvale, and Desolace, making them a handy crossroads for players in their twenties.

Stonetalon Mountains Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 16–22
The Alliance sees only the south-eastern corner of Stonetalon Mountains: Windshear Crag, where the Venture Company is clear-cutting the forest. You arrive through the Talondeep Path tunnel from Ashenvale, and the quests are a short job: Kaela and Gaxim on the Webwinder Path, Ziz Fizziks at his hut and Piznik at the mine.
1Windshear CragLevel 16–22
Kaela Shadowspear stands overlooking the valley entering Windshear Crag; Gaxim Rustfizzle is next to her. The Venture Company loggers (18–19) and deforesters (19–20) work all over the crag, and the Operators run the shredders; one carries the blueprints.
Piznik mines in the small Windshear Mine on the east side: talk to him and fend off the Venture Co. raiders while he mines. Ziz Fizziks has a hut where the road forks east to Windshear Crag.

Gaxim's two last quests send you to Lomac Gearstrip in Ironforge and Collin Mauren in Stormwind, and the road from Stonetalon leads on to Wetlands.
Stonetalon Mountains Leveling Guide for the Horde, Levels 16–28
The Horde enters Stonetalon Mountains from the Barrens at Malaka'jin, the troll village at the canyon entrance, and works up the Webwinder Path to Windshear Crag and west to Sun Rock Retreat, the tauren outpost where most quests start. A burned valley, the Charred Vale, lies southwest of Sun Rock.
The monsters run from level 18 to 20 loggers at Windshear to 23 to 25 harpies, elementals and the Sons and Daughters of Cenarius. Forever adds the Bloodfury Trinkets quest at Sun Rock.
1Malaka'jin and Windshear CragLevel 16–22
Ride south to the Crossroads, then west along the road out of the Barrens into Stonetalon; Malaka'jin sits at the entrance of the canyon. The road climbs north as the Webwinder Path, and Ziz Fizziks has a hut where it forks east to Windshear Crag.
East of Ziz, the Venture Company is clear-cutting Windshear Crag; one of the Operators carries the blueprints. Piznik mines in the small mine on the east side: stay with him while he mines, as Venture Co. thugs come for him.

2Sun Rock RetreatLevel 17–28
Follow the road west to Sun Rock Retreat, where Maggran Earthbinder, Braelyn Firehand, Tsunaman and Tammra Windfield stand. Take everything first: the harpies and elementals southwest of town, the Gaea Seeds in the grass around the southern shore of Mirkfallon Lake and the Cenarius quest toward Stonetalon Peak.
Maggran's Calling in the Reserves is a letter for Grish Longrunner at the Great Lift in the Barrens; the other quests are local.

3The Charred Vale and Stonetalon PeakLevel 19–26
South-west of Sun Rock lies the burned Charred Vale. Plant the Gaea Seeds in the dirt mounds on the valley floor; the fire elementals drop Incendrites. Bloodfury Harpies and Ambushers nest on the north side.
Stonetalon Peak is north: the antlered coursers graze along the way, the Sap Beasts, Twilight Runners and Fey Dragons roam the woods below the Peak, and the Cenarion druids hold the grove there.
