Silithus, the insect-ridden desert of Cenarion Hold and the gates of Ahn'Qiraj.

About Silithus

Silithus is the sand that sleeps on top of a nightmare. When the titans’ keepers built Ahn’Qiraj in this desert, it was a prison for the Old God C’Thun. The insectoid aqir later overran it, and over the ages C’Thun’s presence twisted them into the qiraji, a hive of chitin and hunger that waited beneath the dunes.

The night elves rediscovered the fortress when Archdruid Fandral Staghelm tried to regrow the desert, and the War of the Shifting Sands followed. It ended when Fandral and the bronze dragon Anachronos summoned the Scarab Wall and sealed the qiraji inside. The Cenarion Circle keeps watch at Cenarion Hold, and Twilight’s Hammer cultists gather in the sands, drawn to what sleeps beneath.

At the desert’s southern end the walls of Ahn’Qiraj rise, home to both the Ruins and the Temple of Ahn’Qiraj raids.

Silithus Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 54–60

Silithus is the dry silithid desert at the south-west corner of Kalimdor, and the whole zone runs from Cenarion Hold, the fort in the north: Windcaller Proudhorn, Beetix and Noggle Ficklespragg, Geologist Larksbane and Bor Wildmane give most of the quests, and the work is a ring of dune hunts and Twilight's Hammer errands around it. Layo Starstrike in Southwind Village, in the east, is the other hub.

Monsters run from level 55 to 56 Dredge Strikers and Sand Skitterers to level 57 to 58 Dredge Crushers. The Twilight cultists in the north-west and the Silithid hives are higher. Every quest item is a quest-only drop, so there is nothing to buy at the auction house first.

1Cenarion Hold: Pick Up the FortLevel 54–60

Ride out of the crater's north-western pass into Silithus and on to Cenarion Hold. Take the flight point and bind your hearthstone there; then take everything.
