About Undercity
Beneath the ruined capital of Lordaeron lies a kingdom of the dead. When Arthas Menethil led the Scourge home and murdered his father, King Terenas, the heart of the northern Alliance stopped beating. The city’s crypts, dungeons, and sewers became a warren for the plague’s dreadlords, until the Dark Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, a ranger-general raised as an undead banshee, broke their hold.
Sylvanas defeated the dreadlords one by one. Varimathras knelt to survive; Detheroc fell before her wrath; Balnazzar barricaded himself in the fallen capital until she stormed it. She named her followers the Forsaken, took the title of Banshee Queen, and ordered them to build a new kingdom in the ground. The result is the Undercity: a maze of sewers, canals, chambers, and vaults where the Royal Quarter, the Apothecarium, and the Magic Quarter glow green under the earth.
The Forsaken are not the Scourge. They have shaken free of the Lich King’s will, and they keep their memories, their grudges, and their sense of humor, all of them grim. Bitterness shapes their politics; the Apothecarium’s alchemists still work on the secrets of the plague. Nothing here is decorative, and no one will apologize for it. This is a nation of survivors who know exactly how much they lost, and who mean to make the world remember.
Today the Undercity is the Horde’s hub in the north of the Eastern Kingdoms. Trainers, bankers, and the zeppelins to Kalimdor are all close to hand, and the maze of canals below the old capital still feels like a city built on purpose, for the dead by the dead.
Undercity: Know Before You Go
- New in Forever: Ruins of Lordaeron turns the shattered streets above the city into a level 15–20 dungeon open to both factions.
- Forsaken can now be Paladins, bringing the Light to the Horde; the races guide covers every new combination.
- Elevators from the ruins lead down into the Trade Quarter, home of the bank and auction house.

Undercity Leveling Guide for the Horde, Levels 12–60
The Undercity is the Forsaken capital carved beneath the ruined palace of Lordaeron in Tirisfal Glades. Built in three concentric rings around the central Trade Quarter, the Undercity connects the Eastern Kingdoms to Orgrimmar and Stranglethorn Vale via the zeppelin tower outside Brill, sits directly below Forever's new Ruins of Lordaeron dungeon (15–20), and serves as the Horde quest hub for Shadowfang Keep, Scarlet Monastery, the Apothecarium chains, and Library Book donations.
1Ring Layout, Ruins of Lordaeron Entrance & Zeppelin TowerLevel 1–60
After walking through the ruined throne room above ground and riding a skull elevator down, you arrive in the central Trade Quarter (Bank, Inn, Mailbox, and Bat Handler Michael Garrett). The middle ring holds the Auctioneers and guild master, while the outer canal ring is split into four quarters: War Quarter (north-west: Warrior, Rogue, and Undead Paladin trainers), Magic Quarter (north-east: Mage/Warlock trainers and Horde Library Book turn-ins), Apothecarium (south-west: Alchemy, Herbalism, Enchanting, and dungeon quest chemists), and Royal Quarter (south-east: Lady Sylvanas Windrunner and Varimathras).
