About The Hinterlands
The Hinterlands are a forest of tall trees, tall cliffs, and taller grudges. The Wildhammer dwarves, who were once forced out of Ironforge, found a mountain sanctuary here at Aerie Peak and tamed the gryphons that soar above it. Below them, the Amani trolls of Jintha’Alor keep a hatred of human settlers that dates back to the Troll Wars.
The Second War was fought over these woods too. Part of the Alliance held the Hinterlands against the Horde while the rest chased Orgrim Doomhammer toward Lordaeron, and the wounds left behind still shape the land. The Revantusk trolls of the eastern coast have chosen the Horde’s side, and no one here forgets which banners are which.
Aerie Peak is home to the Wildhammer dwarves and their gryphons, and the Horde has dug in at Revantusk Village on the eastern coast. Troll strongholds such as Jintha’Alor crown the high forests, which makes the Hinterlands a rewarding stop for players in their forties.

The Hinterlands Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 38–51
The Hinterlands is the wild jungle plateau on the east edge of the Eastern Kingdoms, and the Alliance base is Aerie Peak, the Wildhammer dwarf town on the west side. Falstad Wildhammer, Gryphon Master Talonaxe and Fraggar Thundermantle stand within a few steps of each other, and the quests run east in a loop: the Witherbark trolls in the south-west, Skulk Rock in the middle, and the Altar of Zul in the south.
Monsters run from level 46 to 48 oozes at Skulk Rock to the elite Morta'gya the Keeper at the Altar of Zul. Almost every quest item is a quest-only drop. The Troll Tribal Necklaces for Fraggar can also be bought.
1Aerie Peak: Pick Up the TownLevel 38–48
Ride north-east out of Southshore on the road into the Hinterlands; Aerie Peak sits just past the border. Falstad holds court at the top, Gryphon Master Talonaxe tends the aviary and Fraggar Thundermantle stands by the inn. Take the flight point and bind your hearthstone.

2Rhapsody and the Witherbark VillagesLevel 38–45
Rhapsody camps on the road east of Aerie Peak. The first two Witherbark cages stand together in the village south of Rhapsody; the third is in the next village to the east. Every Witherbark troll can drop a necklace.

3Skulk Rock and the Altar of ZulLevel 46–48
Fraggar's Skulk Rock Clean-up wants 10 Green Sludges and 10 Jade Oozes around the abandoned camp at Skulk Rock. The Altar of Zul is the troll temple south of the central hills; Morta'gya the Keeper (elite, level 50) stands at its top, so take what the quest needs from the lower steps. The Wildkin Feathers for Favored of Elune? lie on the ground in the hills.

The Hinterlands Leveling Guide for the Horde, Levels 42–51
The Hinterlands is the wild jungle plateau on the east edge of the Eastern Kingdoms. The Horde has two bases: Gilveradin's camp on the hill south of Quel'Danil Lodge in the west, and Revantusk Village on the eastern coast. You come in from Tarren Mill, set up at Gilveradin's, and then cross the Hinterlands to Revantusk for the main quest list.
Monsters run from level 46 to 48 Silvermane stalkers and Vilebranch trolls to the elite Morta'gya the Keeper (level 50) at the Altar of Zul. Almost every quest item is a quest-only drop. The Long Elegant Feathers for Otho Moji'ko are tradeable.
1Gilveradin's Camp and Rin'jiLevel 42–48
Ride north-east from Tarren Mill into the Hinterlands and east along the road; Gilveradin Sunchaser camps on the hill south of Quel'Danil Lodge. Rin'ji is trapped nearby, and the communication points sit around the lodge. South of the lodge, the Witherbark trolls hold their villages.

Follow the roads east across the Hinterlands to the troll village on the eastern coast. Take the flight point; Lard, Katoom, Slagtree, Yayo'jin, Otho Moji'ko, Huntsman Markhor and Primal Torntusk all give quests within a few steps of each other.

3The Eastern Coast and the Vilebranch TemplesLevel 44–50
Lard's picnic basket is on the small island north along the coast; a Vilebranch Kidnapper guards it. West of the island, the Vilebranch scalpers hold the temples of Agol'watha and Shaol'watha. Slagtree's tools lie at one of the temples.
The Silvermane Stalkers, Savage Owlbeasts and Razorbeak Skylords share the hills between the temples and Skulk Rock. Use the Wildkin Muisek Vessel on the owlbeasts you kill. The Skylords also drop Long Elegant Feathers: keep ten for Otho's follow-up. The Silvermane Howlers roam the hills east of the Witherbark villages.

4The Altar of Zul and Jintha'AlorLevel 46–51
The Vilebranch soothsayers hold the Altar of Zul, the troll temple south of the central hills. Qiaga and Morta'gya the Keeper (elite, 50) stand at its top: take the soothsayers on the lower steps. Huntsman Malkhor's skull lies on a pile below the Vilebranch ruins, his bones on a pile at the foot of Jintha'Alor. The Vessels of Tainted Blood sit on the lower terraces, and Elder Torntusk is held at the top. Keep to the paths.
For The Final Message to the Wildhammer, ride all the way west to Aerie Peak and place the message by the well in the centre of the town. It is full of Alliance guards: get in, place it and get out.
