About Searing Gorge
Searing Gorge is a scar on the face of Khaz Modan. The Dark Iron dwarves who were driven out of Ironforge after the War of the Three Hammers fled to Blackrock Mountain, where they came under the sway of Ragnaros, the elemental lord of fire. For centuries they served the Firelord as his loyal subjects, and the gorge is where they still work.
Their masters have left smoke, slag, and enormous forges that never cool. The Thorium Brotherhood, a splinter faction that refuses to serve Ragnaros, works its forges at the edge of the gorge; the rest of the Dark Irons still bend their knee to the fire, and the fire is always hungry.
On the southern edge of the gorge Blackrock Mountain rises, holding Blackrock Depths and the paths to the raids deeper inside.

Searing Gorge Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 40–50
The Searing Gorge is the lava-filled gorge north of Burning Steppes, and its quests all start at two places: the scaffolded camp of Thorium Point on the north-west rim, and the lone dwarves who wait around the rim of the Cauldron. You come in from the Badlands, west past Kargath, and the whole zone fits in one loop around the Cauldron.
Monsters run from level 43 to 44 Dark Iron geologists at the dig site to level 47 to 49 golems, spiders and incendosaurs. Overseer Maltorius, deep in the Slag Pit, is level 50 with elite guards: stay clear. Nearly every quest item is a quest-only drop; the one tradeable item is the Silk Cloth for the prisoner at the dig site.
1Before You Start: The Auction House
The prisoner in the outhouse at the Grimesilt Dig Site asks for 15 Silk Cloth in Caught!. Silk is tradeable, so a visit to the auction house first saves the farming.

2Thorium Point: Take Both HubsLevel 40–50
Thorium Point is the scaffolded camp on the north-west rim, and the flight point. Taskmaster Scrange, Hansel Heavyhands and Master Smith Burninate all give quests inside it. Zamael Lunthistle stands alone west of the camp; hear his story for Prayer to Elune, then walk the short way over to Kalaran Windblade on the rim of the Cauldron, south of Thorium Point.

3The Cauldron: Golems, Dwarves and SpidersLevel 45–49
The Heavy War Golems patrol the floor of the Cauldron below Kalaran, and the Magma Elementals drift among them: the golems and elementals drop the oil, the elementals the hearts. Taskmasters (47 to 48) and Slavers (45 to 46) drive the slaves all over the Cauldron, and any of them can carry a Thorium Plated Dagger. The Steamsmiths work at the furnaces in the middle (the Smithing Tuyere), the Lookouts stand on the southern ridges (the Spyglass).
The Greater Lava Spiders roam the plateaus and lava pools in the south-west of the gorge.

4The Slag PitLevel 47–50
The Slag Pit opens in the north of the Cauldron. The Secret Plans lie on its upper ledge, and the Incendosaurs swim in the lava pools further in, so pull them to the edge. Stay clear of Overseer Maltorius and his elite guards deep inside.

5The Grimesilt Dig SiteLevel 43–48
Ride east across the Cauldron to the Grimesilt Dig Site in the south-east. The prisoner in the wooden outhouse wants 15 Silk Cloth and eight dead Dark Iron Geologists from the dig site around it; the outhouse also opens with the Grimesilt Outhouse Key if you found one. Dorius Stonetender stands by the road at the site: follow him north along the road and fight off the Dark Iron ambushes. When it is over, read the Singed Letter he leaves on the road in Dustfire Valley, then take it to Ironforge.
