Capital City Map & Guide

Ironforge, the dwarven capital carved into the mountains of Dun Morogh and a hub for Alliance adventurers.

About Ironforge

Ironforge is older than the human kingdoms and prouder than most. Its dwarves are heirs to the titan-forged earthen who woke in the vaults of Uldaman with the curse of flesh upon them. They walked west to the snowy peaks of Dun Morogh, named the land Khaz Modan after the titan Khaz’goroth, and delved into its tallest mountain to build a forge that has never gone cold. The Great Forge that burns at the city’s heart is still the reason the whole mountain glows.

The city’s history is a story of clans. Three thanes shared the mountain, the Bronzebeards, the Wildhammers, and the sorcerous Dark Irons, and when High King Modimus died the tension broke into the War of the Three Hammers. The Bronzebeards prevailed, the Wildhammers settled in the Hinterlands, and the Dark Irons were driven to Blackrock Mountain. Ironforge rebuilt around a senate and a king whose seat rests on centuries of deals.

In the Second War the Horde threw everything at the gates and lost thousands to axes and cold mountain stone; Doomhammer settled for a siege and kept the mountain’s forges for himself until the Alliance broke it. Gnomes and dwarves have shared the halls ever since, and the Deeprun Tram carries the same spirit to Stormwind: dwarves dig, gnomes invent, and together they have always outlasted the cold.

Trainers, bankers, and the auction house cluster around the Great Forge at the city’s heart. The Deeprun Tram links Ironforge to Stormwind, and since Gnomeregan fell, the gnomes have made their home in Tinker Town.

Ironforge Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 10–60

Ironforge is the dwarven capital carved under the Dun Morogh mountains and the central industrial hub of the Eastern Kingdoms. Connected directly to Stormwind via the Deeprun Tram in Tinker Town and to the new Hall of Thanes dungeon, Ironforge houses the Great Forge anvil, the Hall of Explorers (the Alliance turn-in hub for Library Books and Uldaman/Badlands chains), and city reputation cloth quartermasters for both Ironforge and Gnomeregan Exiles.

1Before You Start: The Auction House

The city reputation cloth quartermasters ask for 60 of each cloth tier for Ironforge and Gnomeregan Exiles reputation. All of it is tradeable, so the Ironforge Auction House across from the Bank in the Commons is the quickest source.
