Zone Map & Leveling Guide

Dun Morogh, the snowy dwarf and gnome homeland surrounding Ironforge and the entrance to Gnomeregan.

About Dun Morogh

Dun Morogh is where the dwarves began. When the earthen woke from the vaults of Uldaman and found themselves changed by the curse of flesh, they wandered west until the snow-capped peaks of this land stopped them. They named the country Khaz Modan, the Mountain of Khaz, and carved a great forge in the tallest of its peaks.

The gnomes were already living in the caverns nearby. The dwarves taught them stonework and the gnomes taught the dwarves engineering, and together they built Gnomeregan, one of the most inventive cities Azeroth has known. The Horde came for both in the Second War, but Ironforge’s gates and Gnomeregan’s iron door held. Snow, troggs, and stubborn friendship have defined Dun Morogh ever since.

Snow-covered valleys, frozen lakes, and the cozy hearths of Kharanos give Dun Morogh its unmistakable charm. Coldridge Valley hands dwarves and gnomes their first quests before the pass opens toward Ironforge, while troggs and frost-maned trolls prowl the hills. Far in the west, the fallen gnome capital of Gnomeregan waits for adventurers bold enough to take it back.

Dun Morogh Leveling Guide for the Alliance, Levels 1–15

Dun Morogh is the starting zone for dwarves and gnomes and the first snowy valley most Alliance characters pass through. The guide starts in Coldridge Valley at level 1, moves to the town of Kharanos by 5, and then fans out from there: the depot and the wendigo cave, Brewnall Village and Frostmane Hold, the quarry in the east and the Gnomeregan road. Other Alliance races can skip the first two parts and walk in at Kharanos.

Monsters grow from level 1 wolves and troggs in the valley to level 9 and 10 troggs and Dark Iron spies in the east, so the order below runs from easy to hard. Forever adds a long list of new quests here (Father Gavin's camp at Misty Pine Refuge, the Amberstill Ranch and the quarry, Earthseer Farsen's ridge), each marked as you reach it.

1Before You Start: The Auction House

Most quest items in Dun Morogh cannot be traded, but a few are ordinary goods. Boar ribs and boar meat each turn up in a Kharanos quest, and the malt for Ragnar's order is sold by the inn, so a few coppers at the auction house save you two fights.

Stocking Jetsteam also wants two Thick Bear Furs. They are quest items that cannot be traded, so they come from the Young Black Bears.

2Coldridge Valley: Pick Up EverythingLevel 1–3

You start in front of Anvilmar, the stone hall at the north end of the valley. Every first quest is within a minute of it: the wolves and troggs are just south, and the quest-givers are lined up along the road.

The first kills are level 1 and 2, so take Sten's and Balir's quests and fight on the valley floor.

  • 4Grund Drokda 28.6, 67.6: Grund and Gozwin, new in Forever, which sends you to Gozwin's camp in the hills northwest of him.
  • 5Hands Springsprocket at the tunnel 33.9, 72.2: Supplies to Tannok, a crate you carry to Kharanos when you leave.

3Coldridge Valley: The Troll CaveLevel 1–5

Talin Keeneye's camp is at the west end of the valley. Grelin Whitebeard and Nori Pridedrift are camped just below the troll cave in the southwest. The Frostmane Troll Whelps fill the slopes around Grelin's camp at level 3 to 4.

Nori's Scalding Mornbrew Delivery has a five-minute timer: take it only when you can run straight to Durnan Furcutter in Anvilmar, and bring his mug back for Bring Back the Mug.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 3 numbered

  • 4The back of the cave 30.5, 80.2: kill Grik'nir the Cold and take Grelin's journal.

4Kharanos: The First TownLevel 3–7

Follow the road through the tunnel and northeast to Kharanos. Senir Whitebeard, Eric Brighthammer and his campfire stand outside the Thunderbrew Distillery; Tannok, Maxan and Ragnar are inside; Tharek Blackstone works the forge.

Bind your hearthstone at the inn and hand in whatever you carry from the valley before taking new quests.

5Steelgrill's Depot and the Grizzled DenLevel 4–8

The depot is a short walk northeast of Kharanos. The crag boars and young black bears in the fields between the two cover Ragnar's ribs and the pilots' deliveries, and the wendigo cave southwest of Kharanos holds Flintfire's crates and a lost mountaineer.

Do the boar and bear work in one sweep, hand in at the depot, then walk to the cave.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 5 numbered
  • 1Pilot Bellowfiz at the depot 49.4, 48.4: Stocking Jetsteam (four Chunks of Boar Meat and two Thick Bear Furs from the fields around Kharanos) and Evershine, which sends you to Rejold Barleybrew in Brewnall Village.
  • 2Pilot Stonegear 49.6, 48.6: The Grizzled Den, eight Wendigo Manes from the cave. Loslor Rudge 50.1, 49.4: Ammo for Rumbleshot.

  • 5Hegnar Rumbleshot 40.7, 65.1: the ammo crate for Ammo for Rumbleshot sits in the Frostmane camp on Shimmer Ridge; Hegnar camps south of it on the road to Coldridge.

6Brewnall Village and Frostmane HoldLevel 7–10

Brewnall Village sits on the lake northwest of Frostmane Hold. This is the hub for the bear, boar and leopard quests of the 7 to 8 level band, so go with the Frostmane Hold and Recombobulation errands in the same trip.

Frostmane Hold is the troll cave west of the village. Kill the Headhunters (8–9) at its mouth, then walk through to the far end.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 6 numbered
  • 1Rejold Barleybrew in Brewnall 30.2, 45.7: hand in Evershine, then take The Perfect Stout, A Favor for Evershine and later Return to Bellowfiz.
  • 2Marleth Barleybrew 30.2, 45.5: Bitter Rivals, which has you swap a barrel in the basement of the Thunderbrew Distillery in Kharanos, and then Return to Marleth.
  • 3Gretta Ganter 31.5, 44.6: Frosthowl, new in Forever.
  • 4The hills around the lake 30.2, 42.3: six Ice Claw Bears, eight Elder Crag Boars and eight Snow Leopards (all 7–8) for A Favor for Evershine, and Shimmerweed from the bushes for The Perfect Stout.
  • 5Frostmane Hold 22.8, 52.1: five Frostmane Headhunters (8–9) 22.6, 54.6, and explore the cave for Frostmane Hold.
  • The Leper Gnomes near Brewnall and on the Gnomeregan road carry the eight Restabilization Cogs and eight Gyromechanic Gears for Operation Recombobulation, which you hand in to Razzle in Kharanos.

7Misty Pine RefugeLevel 8

Follow the road east past the depot to Misty Pine Refuge, Father Gavin's camp, which is all new in Forever. His quests are level 8 and fit in one visit: firewood in the snow by the frozen lake, ten Minor Ice Elementals drifting around it, three lost rifles, and Avala's Core among the elementals.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 7 numbered
  • 1Father Gavin 57.7, 44.9: Finding Warmth, Rime's Wrath and Treacherous Cold. Hand in Dawn in the Mountains from Maxan here.
  • 2The frozen lake by the refuge 55.1, 45.4: ten Minor Ice Elementals for Rime's Wrath and Avala's Core; the firewood and the three rifles lie in the snow around the lake.
  • 3Father Gavin 57.7, 44.9: hand in all three.

8Gol'Bolar Quarry and Amberstill RanchLevel 9–11

Next, the east side of the valley. The Amberstill Ranch is the first stop, with the Gol'Bolar Quarry southeast of it. The troggs in the quarry are the toughest of the zone, at 8 to 10, so arrive at 9.

Quarrymaster Thesten and Foreman Stonebrow give a small hub of quests; the Rockjaw Ambushers by Helm's Bed Lake to the north and the Backbreakers to the east drop the Stolen Blasting Powder.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 8 numbered
  • 1Rudra Amberstill at the ranch 63.1, 49.9: Never Saddle on Quality, new in Forever.
  • 2Frast Dokner at the quarry 69.0, 55.9: The Quarry's Smith, new in Forever.

  • 4Senator Mehr Stonehallow 68.7, 56.0: The Public Servant, ten Rockjaw Bonesnappers (9–10) 70.7, 56.6.
  • 5Quarrymaster Thesten 69.2, 54.8: Stolen Blasting Powder, from the Rockjaw trogg packs around Helm's Bed Lake.

9Farsen's Ridge and the North GateLevel 9–13

The last parts are on the roads leading out of Dun Morogh. Earthseer Farsen watches the quarry from a ridge to the west, and the Dark Iron spies on the lake shore are the target of his quests. The North Gate Outpost is a short ride north for the pilot's revenge.

Farsen's quests are rated 13 and 15, a clear step above the quarry.

Map of Dun Morogh with the stops of part 9 numbered
  • 1Earthseer Farsen 64.9, 58.5: A Visitor to Dun Morogh (from Beldin Steelgrill), Farsen's Watch and Nip 'Em in the Bud.
  • 2The shore of Helm's Bed Lake 76.9, 60.0: ten Dark Iron Spies (9–10); one carries the Dark Iron Map for Underground Map.
  • 3North Gate Outpost 83.9, 39.2: Pilot Hammerfoot's The Lost Pilot and A Pilot's Revenge, which has you kill Mangeclaw.
  • 4Tundra MacGrann in Chill Breeze Valley 34.6, 51.6: Tundra MacGrann's Stolen Stash, a locker in Old Icebeard's cave to the northeast of his camp.

10Moving On: Ironforge and Westfall

With the last hand-ins you should be around 13. The road north climbs to Ironforge, where the Deeprun Tram runs to Stormwind and on to Westfall. The tunnel east leads into Loch Modan.
