About Ruins of Lordaeron

Everyone who has ever set foot in Tirisfal Glades knows the sun-bleached ramparts guarding the elevators to the Undercity. For decades, those fallen colonnades served merely as scenic transit corridors. World of Warcraft: Forever blasts open the barricaded avenues, palace courtyards, and forgotten catacombs of the lost capital, transmuting them into a sprawling five-player dungeon frozen on the night of its fall.

The layout winds through four fully realized urban districts: teams push through the barricaded barricades of King's Alley, purge frenzied ghouls and stitched monstrosities across Market Street, ascend to the fog-drenched balustrades of Lordamere Overlook, and fight down into the somber crypts of the Lordaeron Graveyard. Walking across the withered red carpet where Prince Arthas once returned triumphant, the ambient clatter of clashing steel still echoes off crumbling cathedral spires.

Both factions descend upon the ruins for radically divergent motives. Stormwind sends paladins and Infiltrators to recover royal regalia and lay restless defenders to peace; Sylvanas and the Royal Apothecary Society dispatch deathguards to cleanse lingering Scourge vectors threatening their subterranean gates. Clashing with Witherfang, the butchering monstrosities, and the ghostly Lordaeron Captain, every cobbled stone whispers of ancient betrayal.

First Run

  • The instance portal stands behind ironwork portcullises in the surface courtyard of the ruins. Horde step right in; Alliance must trek through Silverpine waterways or cross from Western Plaguelands.
  • Built for levels 15 to 20. While early trash packs are defeatable at 15, key attached dungeon quests span levels 18 to 21, making an average party level of 17 ideal for full quest credit.
  • Horde players have four quests to pick up before the run: Light's Justice and The New Plague in Undercity, The Wrath of Rath'mael at the camp southeast of Brill, and A Frightened Request at the Sepulcher in Silverpine Forest. Alliance players take Abominable Creatures from Captain Truman just inside the entrance; their other quests start from items looted in the dungeon.
  • The Baron stuns his current target and turns on the next player, so keep an off-tank ready to pick him up. Bjork patrols the road along the upper left edge of the map, knocks the tank back, and raises an anti-magic shield; casters should wait for it to fade.
  • Two bosses only appear when you call them. The Abandoned: walk up to the knight statue in the small room on the left side of the map; it flares violet, and The Abandoned leaps out after three to four waves of undead. Viktor the Vile, a hidden boss: in the ruined house with a chimney in the bottom-left corner, click the Warm Kindling, then hold through four to five waves until he shows up.
  • Lordaeron Captain is a rare spawn, so he will not be there on every run.

Veteran Notes

  • Seven bosses. A full run meets them in this order: Witherfang, The Baron, The Abandoned, Bjork, and Rath'mael at the domed building in the center, then Viktor the Vile as a hidden boss. Lordaeron Captain is a rare spawn.
  • Ten dungeon quests: six for the Horde and four for the Alliance, with each side getting its own Crest of Lordaeron.
  • Single-floor open-air urban layout with wide sightlines, requiring disciplined pulling to avoid chaining adjacent street patrols.

Changes in Forever

  • An Iconic Setting Fully Instanced. Classic never offered a five-player dungeon inside Lordaeron's capital streets. Forever realizes one of Warcraft's greatest lore monuments into active group gameplay.
  • Rich Faction Asymmetry. Distinct quest paths, lore perspectives, and turn-ins for both Alliance and Horde adventurers.

Ruins of Lordaeron Route & Boss Strategy

The Ruins of Lordaeron is an open city, not a corridor: streets and squares in a wide U, with sightlines long enough to pull packs you never meant to touch. Run it clockwise, right side first, and bring the fight back to cleared ground every time. Two bosses arrive only after waves of undead, so mana matters more here than in any dungeon of this level. Allow about an hour.

  1. King's Alley

    • Go straight in from the portal. Spiders hold the first streets in tight groups, with fast patrols between them, and Shrieking Banshees walk the alley further on. Pull each pack back toward the entrance.
    • Alliance players take Abominable Creatures from Captain Truman just inside. Horde players collect Intact Limbs for Light's Justice from the undead throughout, and Alliance players loot Bloodied Insignias from the skeletons.
  2. Witherfang

    Boss
    Leech Poison
A poison on the tank that drains health.
    • The great spider patrols King's Alley on the right side of the map, where the spiders nest. Clear a stretch of his path and pull him into it.
    • Two spiders come with him. Kill Witherfang first, then the adds.
    • Horde players loot the Highly Toxic Strain for The New Plague.
  3. The Baron

    Boss
    Knockout
One blow that takes close to half the tank's health and stuns them.
    • Turn back and continue to the bottom of the map, right of center. Skeletal Soldiers and Mages guard the abomination in packs of three; clear them first.
    • When the tank is stunned he turns on the next player on his threat list. Have a second player ready to taunt: a warrior, a bear, or a pet with Growl. Without one, that next player is usually the healer.
    • Keep the tank near full at all times, and use stuns on him freely.
    • Both factions want his head: Abominable Creatures for the Alliance, Unending Torment for the Horde.
  4. The Abandoned

    Optional
    Frost Nova
Freezes players near him in place.
    Chilled
Slows melee players who hit him.
    Life Drain
Drains the tank's health. A stun at the start of the cast stops it.
    • Follow the U to the left side and into the small hall with a knight's statue. Rest and drink before you approach.
    • The statue flares violet and three waves of undead attack with no break between them. The Abandoned leaps out with the fourth.
  5. Bjork

    Boss
    Knockback
    Throws the tank back.
    Anti-Magic Shield
Makes him immune to spells for about three seconds.
    • He patrols the road along the upper left edge. Ghoul packs stand close to his path, three or four to a pack and close to each other, and they hit hard: clear them first and kill the Ragged Ghoul in each pack before the others.
    • Tank him with your back to a wall, away from everything else. Casters wait out the shield.
  6. The Crest of Lordaeron

    • Each faction has a quest that starts from a shield glowing dull gold, and it does not always appear in the same place. Check behind the door near the Baron's area, the room beside Bjork's road, the pavilion and stairs in the upper left, and the end of the rooftop paths where the gargoyles roost.
  7. Rath'mael

    Boss
    Flamestrike
Fire on the ground. Step out of it, or stun him to stop the cast.
    • The necromancer stands on a violet circle under the domed building at the center of the map. For a final boss he is gentle: move out of the fire and he falls.
    • Edward Heartweaver's body lies in the graveyard beside him. Horde players finish A Frightened Request there, and Alliance players loot the letter that starts Remember That I Love You.
    • His death completes The Wrath of Rath'mael.
  8. Viktor the Vile

    Optional
    Leech Poison
A poison on the tank that drains health.
    • A hidden boss in the ruined house with a chimney in the bottom-left corner. Clear around the house, drink to full, then click the Warm Kindling under the chimney.
    • Five waves follow with almost no pause, and Viktor comes with the sixth. Spend mana carefully from the first wave.
    • He hits hard, so the tank takes him at once.
  9. Lordaeron Captain

    • A rare spawn, absent on most runs. Kill him when you see him.
