About Zul'Gurub

The Gurubashi called Hakkar into the world once and nearly did not survive the success. The Soulflayer takes blood and gives power, the empire took the bargain, and by the time the priesthood understood what it had invited, the only way out was civil war. They won it, barely. The empire came apart in the winning and the jungle took the capital back.

The Atal'ai never accepted the verdict. Jin'do and the priests who kept faith with Hakkar have been working the ruins of Zul'Gurub for generations, and this time they have gone about it properly: the high priests of the old animal loa have each been turned in turn, their power bent toward the summoning rather than against it.

It is working. Something is taking shape at the centre of the ruins that the jungle around it has already begun to answer to, and Stranglethorn's trolls are not the only ones who can feel it coming. Hakkar does not need to be brought fully through to do damage. He only needs the door held open long enough.

First Run

  • The gate is in northern Stranglethorn Vale, on the shore of the Bloodfire Lake below Grom'gol.
  • Twenty players at maximum level, with a shorter lockout than the 40-player raids.
  • No attunement. Anyone who can reach the gate can go in.
  • The high priests can be taken in any order, which makes this the most flexible raid of its tier.

Veteran Notes

  • Ten encounters, ending with Jin'do and then Hakkar.
  • Twenty players, maximum level.
  • Each high priest killed before Hakkar removes one of his aspects, so kill order changes the final fight.
  • Gahz'ranka is an optional summoned encounter requiring fishing and preparation outside the raid.
